Can't watch flash stuff and videos (YouTube, etc)
« on: September 19, 2006, 07:50:55 PM »
Ok, for some reason I can't view flash stuff. It says this when I try to view YouTube videos..."Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Click here to get the latest flash player."

I go and get the latest version and it tells me that I installed it correctly yet I still can't view flash stuff. Any ideas?

This only is the "Internet Explorer" forum. ::)

BTW, I can watch them when they are embemmed onto a page but not directly on YouTube's, Myspace's, etc site.

The roll-eyes weren't necessary because not everyone is as clever and acuminous as you are.

Anyhow, you may have Javascript disabled. Check your advanced IE settings.

About the Internet Explorer thing, its pretty much common sense.

Should I just restore the defaults?

Except that people who exclusively use other browsers assume they should just post in the IE forum, because "Firefox is like Internet Explorer".

Ok, my bad. Now about my problem. I don't understand why I can watch the videos when they're embedded onto a page yet I can't watch them like if I were to click on a YouTube link.

    Use Firefox.  :P

    I'd try uninstalling Flash.

FF solves 85% of Internet Explorer problems, falco. I only keep IE for cosmetic purposes and Web Testing.

I'm a die hard IE fan & I think to just say use Firefox is not a good answer.
Problems with Windows, use Linux doesn't cut it for me.

Blade, did you reset all the defaults as follows?

          3. Control Panel
          4. Internet Options
          5. Security tab
          6. Reset all 4 security zones to Default

          1. Start
          2. Settings
          3. Control Panel
          4. Internet Options
          5. Privacy
          6. Restore 1 Default button

          1. Start
          2. Settings
          3. Control Panel
          4. Internet Options
          5. Advanced
          6. Restore 1 Default button

You may need to do the following as well

          1. Start
          2. Settings
          3. Control Panel
          4. Internet Options
          5. General tab
          6. Remove cookies, temporary files and history

          Kudos to Raptor.
