Found New Hardware
« on: October 26, 2006, 09:25:58 AM »
I have Windows XP SP/2 on my computer. I have installed my printer and all the drivers, no problems. When I restart my computer the "Found New Hardware" automatically always installs it again, Epson Printer ESC/P2. I remove it from the Control Panel/Printers/Faxs folder. Is there any way to disable the "Found New Hardware" in WindowsXP?
Thanks,

janmcl

Do I have this in the wrong forum? Should it be in the Windows forum?

No, you just need to learn patience.  ;)

How did you install these drivers? Can you post the steps you've taken?

Sorry, about not being patient. I installed the drivers/ect. for the Epson Printer with the CD that came with the printer according per instructions. Then checked at Epson site for updated drivers, installed updated drivers per instructions. I don't have a problem with the printer working. When I shut down computer for the night/day or how ever long and then turn it back on, the computer  tells me "new hardware found" and automatically installs it.Therefore I have the printer installed twice, once by CD and once by the" new hardware found" of WinXP/SP2. I then go to Control Panel/Printers/Faxs folder and uninstall the Printer that WinXP has installed.(EPSON Printer ESC/P2) I still have the printer installed that I installed with the CD. Is there anyway to disable the "new hardware found" in WinXP/SP2  OSystem.?
Thanks for any and all help.

ESC/P2 was an old designation for some dot matrix printers that Epson made.

Exacly what model is this? What happens if you uninstall ALL drivers and then reboot? Where is the link where you got these drivers? Did it say WinXP compatible?

The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 870(ink jet printer) I got the drivers to install the printer off of the CD that came with the printer, then went to the Epson web page and downloaded the updated drivers for WinXP. The printer works fine without any problems. If I unstall the drivers for the printer(Epson Stylus Photo 870) printer from the CD & Epson update, reboot, reinstall the drivers, the printer works fine. When I uninstall the printer(Epson Stylus Photo 870 ESC/P2)  that the " New Hardware Found" in WinXP, it uninstalls with no problem. The problem is that when I turn off the computer and then later(usually the next day) turn it back on the "New Hardware Found" in WinXP automactially installs the printer again. So therefore I have the printer installed twice, once by the CD & update and then again by the "New Hardware Found" in WinXP. Is there any way to DISABLE the 'New Hardware Found" in WinXP?
Thank You.

I think there are other issues. If you have the correct updated driver you do not need to install the old one first.

If you delete all the printers in device manager and then reboot and let Windows do it's thing WITHOUT YOU INSTALLING ANYTHING what happens?

It seems like I asked that already.

O.K. I did as you suggested in your last post. Went to Device Manager, deleted the Epson Printer,so that I had no printers installed on my computer. Rebooted and the "New Hardware Found" re installed the Epson Printer. In the Control Panel/Printers/Faxes folder it shows " Epson Stylus Photo 870 ESC/ P2" with the picture of a printer. There is only one problem with letting Windows automatically installing the printer and that is that now I don't have the Epson Printer Monitor installed.I downloaded it(Epson Printer Monitor) from the Epson site but it would not install ,it tells me to install the Epson Stylus Photo 870 Printer first. So I guess I will just install the drivers from the Epson site and then install the Printer Monitor. I'll end up with the printer being installed twice but I will have to live with it.
Thank,janmcl

Instead of deleteing it from device manager, go to control panel/printers and remove the second installation.

    Re;2k_dummy,
I have gone to the Control Panel/Printers&Faxes and removed the second printer installation(Epson Stylus Photo870 ESC/P2) the one that automatically is installed when ever I turn on the computer, several times.(Leaving the original install(Epson Stylus Photo 870) that I did there)Then when I shut down the computer for the night,or however long and come back and turn on the computer again, the"New Hardware Found" pops up and tells me that the Epson Stylus Photo870 Printer has been found and installed.(Does Not give me the choice whether to install it or not) This happens everytime. So there fore I end up having the Epson 870 installed twice. One that I have installed(Epson Stylus Photo870) and one that was installed automactically by the "New Hardware Found" (Epson Stylus Photo870 ESC/P2). That is why I wanted to know if there was anyway to Disable ::) the "New Hardware Found" that is built in WinXP/SP2.
    Thanks, janmcl

Does this printer happen to have a built in card reader ? ?

If so all bets are off and you need to either read your documentation on how to install it properly and/or visit the manuf. site for instructions...

No, it does not have a built in reader card.
I have done everything that everyone has suggested in the pre- posts. My problem is not with the printer working correctly,it is with the"New Hardware Found" (application) or what ever it is called in WINXP/SP2. I'll just leave it installed twice.
Thanks for the Help to everyone.
