Configuration of 2 DVD Burners
« on: November 03, 2006, 07:02:11 AM »
Can someone tell me the correct configuration and settings if I'm installing 2 burners (IDE 1 & 2, slave, master). I installed 2 burners. IDE 1 had HD Master, and Slave Burner.  IDE had Master Burner.  When I booted up, the system recognized the brand name, then while searching for drivers, started saying cd-rom and dvd-rom, and then I got the blue screen fatal error and computer restarted itself. After it restarted, I looked in device manager, and the brand name wasn't there. It only said master IDE controller, primary controller and secondary controller, as if some type of genetic driver were installed. Please help.

I would do this...Keep IDE1 for HDD's only. Then hook up both DVD's on IDE2 with one set as master and one as slave.

Windows sometimes mis-identifies optical drives according to what type of media is currently being used so don't fret about what Device Manager reports unless the drives are not working.
Usually on newer flavors of Windows no drivers need be installed for these to work properly.
