Abandonware

Is it possible to legally buy abandonware?  If you've already had a game that is considered abandonware since the time the company that made it was in business, is it legal to play it when it is now abandonware?  I think so, but I'm not sure.

I read the Wikipedia article, Unlovedwarrior.  Anyways, the games I'm talking about are the original releases, and not emulated or pirated copies.  (I do not download games.)

well if the company who made them is no longer making them/selling for money then you should be good to go

Call Microsoft and tell them you are using a bootleg copy of DOS 6.22 and giving it to your friends also. As they are not selling this any more it is abandonware per your definition. See what they say when you ask if this OK.

I believe it is still covered under copyright regardless of anything else. You would want to check with Rob on this. Or your lawyer if they take you to court.

I don't have any abandonware, GX1_Man.  I was asking about it only.  Obviously, if a game's company went bankrupt, it must still be under copyright.  I'd prefer to have no more replies...  I do not think I need to talk to Rob.  Besides, I also do not have DOS 6.22.  I've got 7.0, which came with Windows 95.  (It's an original glossy disc that was used for the operating system, and when I had reformatted my old computer and re-installed Windows, the installation program asked for a serial number, which I had in the original instruction book.  It's a good thing I keep these around.)

I don't get your original post. Are you asking, if a company goes out of business, can you still play the games which you got when they were in business? Well of course.
