+++can't get out from safe mode!!!

Hi,
when I was trying to delete a virus on my labtop (windows xp) I had to switch into safe mode. The problem is that I can't switch back to normal mode anymore. I tried several times to restart and use option f8 highlighting on 'restart normally" but I always end up to safe mode again (with 'safe mode' written in the 4 corners of the screen and no connection to internet).
Does somebody know how can I get back to normal mode??

What virus, what antivirus, what did you do, etc.

it was a "downloader" virus detected by norton antivirus scan, following norton antivirus direction I switched into safe mode and never came back to normal...

Can you do system restore to an earlier time?

Do you get a log on screen? If there is more than one account on the machine, you must log on using the same account that was logged on when Norton started.

Are you doing re-boots ? ?
Try a cold boot instead...i.e. leave the mchine off for a few minutes...

what ecxactly do you mean? when I restart I end to safe mode with all main files but no connection to internet...

I think your confusing a log on screen,when your first attempting to log on to windows with....going online....not the same.Remember going online is not an issue until you get Windows all happy first.
