    Windows xp keeps restarting!
    « on: November 30, 2006, 08:57:14 PM »
I resentlly recovered from a corrupted registry by running the windows repair.  It pretty much reinstalled windows and kept all my files.  I downloaded some programs that I needed to reinstall and I updated windows.  the last program I installed was magic.iso I think that's what it's called. The
one that creates virtual drives.  After the install it told me that I needed to restart windows, so I did.  When I turned the computer back on, it had the message safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, start to last known good configuration and start windows normally.  I chose start windows normally.  it loaded all the way to the windows xp logo and the little loading line that appears under the window logo started to move and stoped.  the computer restarted byitself.  I restarted and I got the same menu about how I wanted to stard windows.  I tryed every single way and they all lead to the same problem.  I tryed to do the recovery thing on the windows cd, but this time it doesn't recognize windows xp is installed and just asks me if I want to do a cleen install and I choose no.  Also one more thing,  when I go to the repair thing on the cd where it should ask me to pick which windows version I want to pick and logon.  it just shows C:> and doesn't ask me to log on or anything.
this is the computer I have.

You may be looking at a full format and reinstall WITOUT adding in Magic ISO. Is that a possibility? It may be quicker than sorting this mess out.

Sometimes hardware issues can cause this, but in your case it sounds like a pretty clear cut software cause and effect.

sorry for responding so late but I didin't have a computer to go on to reply.  I recently downloaded slax and it works pretty good. Is there a way to fix the problem through slax? because I don't have another hardrive to copy all of my files.  I guess I'll proabobly end up buying one. anyhow thanks for the help, and again sorry for not replying earlier.
