Processor And PC Build Questions

Question 1
How does the Intel P4 950 LGA 775 dual core processor at 3.4 ghz compare in regards to gaming with the Intel Core 2 duo E6600 2.4 ghz?  From my understanding the new technologies in the Intel Core 2 make it the better choice, but I'm left wondering if for example a game is requiring a 3 ghz minimum processor is the older 3.4 ghz processor going to be the better choice?  Or does the fact that they are dual cores effectively make the Intel Core 2 4.8 ghz?

Question 2 - Computer Builds
This is tentatively what I'm looking at building:

Processor: Either of the two listed above
Ram: 2 Gigs
Motherboard - Not really sure but looking to spend around $100 preferably one allowing decent upgrade options, currently looking at ASUS P5N SLI
Harddrive- 250GB Western Digital
Graphics Card: ATI Saphire Radeon X1900 GT, PCI Express, 256MB, 2x dvi, TV-Out, Vivo

Question 1:
Core 2 Duos are far superior. A Core 2 Duo at 2.4Ghz is much more powerfull than a Pentium at 3.4Ghz. Not only that but u can overclock the Core 2 Duo to 3.4Ghz easily and get an un-parallel ammount of performance.

Question 2:

Motherboard - ECS PA1 MVP/ECS NFORCE 570 SLIT-A  (75$/80$)
CrossFire motherboard.

Graphics card - X1950XT
The graphics card is the ONLY thing that matters. Spend as much as u can on it. If u can, buy the 8800 GTS and the second motherboard to the right.
