Reformatting problem

i have a sony vaio which i reformatted recently to an old service pack 1 xp home edition. now i cannot connect to the internet from what i figure is a driver issue. i am trying to connect w/ an ethernet cord and not wireless. if someone could please point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated

1) Install Service Pack 2

2) Install all drivers (Look in Device Manager to see what has problems. Check for the existence of a NIC driver.)

3) Check the Sony site for your machine for the necessary drivers if you don't find a CD with them.

4) Run the Connection Wizard

5) Read the Manual
