DSL and Web page problem
« on: December 23, 2006, 12:47:54 PM »
I hope this is the right place to ask this, but does anyone know how, or if, I can determine if my telephone wiring might be preventing me from loading certain Web pages? I upgraded to Qwest DSL several months ago and some sites load fine, others give me an "operation timed out" error message when they can't load the page. :'( But those same Web pages load fine on dial up. :) I've gone through everything on my computer, Windows XP and had Qwest send me a second DSL modem. Today, I tried my lap top from work and I had the same problems on the same pages.  :'( That leads me to think it's in the wiring. Any help would be appreciated.

If some sites load fine and others don't, it is not likely to be a line problem.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

mithmc  ..........  I tend to agree with  2k_dummy, that the issue isn't a phone line problem .
How many sites are you having issue with ?

What browser are you using?     and if you can try more than one browser, do they all behave the same?

Because I use Firefox, I have been following:
      http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=502436&sid=63d9d2f88619150578885a0a2bf18f34

which I immediately thought of when I saw your post.    The signal-to-noise ratio is  rather high in that thread,  but reading between the lines it appears that there might be something to the complaint about the recent upgrade(s).

If you are using Firefox, have you recently upgraded?

I have this problem with some newspaper sites, Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News most often. I get the same error message with Firefox, Netscape and IE. I've upgraded Firefox and IE to the latest versions. I also can't log on to any site that requires a password. The reason I thought it might be the wiring is because I have Qwest DSL at my office and I use the same laptop there and never have a problem. I used that laptop here at home and got the same error messages when I tried to go to the Post and News sites.
