    Wireless Networking
    « on: December 27, 2006, 01:17:59 PM »
    Well I haven't posted in awhile but here I am back again. MY Problem, Just got a PSP and want to go on the Internet with it, I make the connection and fill in all the info like the ssid and the wep. THen when I click test connection, it says It doesnt get an ip address. So, i manually add one and when I try to go on google it says"A DNS error has occurred. (8041040F)". I have a LinksysWT54GS router and this problem has been happening alot when we try to add another computer to the network. WE always have to pay someone to come do it for us.

    Any Help Would be Great!!!

    Read the networking FAQ (see below).  Then post again if you're still stuck.

      For my psp I have to set the Subnet Mask, which im assuming is 255.255.255.0. THe Default Router, which im not quite sure what th ip for that is but is it the same IP you use to change the setting with the router? and I also have to set the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS. I tried using all the info from one of my computers connected by Lan but It didnt work. So My questions are: Would the Dns be the same on every computer so I could Just Copy it? And Is the Router IP address the one, where you type it in to change settings? If it isnt How do I get the router ip?

      Thanks For Help!!!!

        Update: When I tested the Connection on the PSP I noticed this time that  for default router it says: 0.0.0.0, and im assuming it either cant find the router or cant connect to it. So Do I have the wrong router IP?

        All of your computers on your netwokr connect to the same router/gateway, yes?  Go to any other computer on your network; bring up a command prompt.  Enter "ipconfig".  You will be presented with the IP settings of that computer, including primary DNS and gateway.  On most small/home LANs, the same address is given for primary DNS and gateway.

        "gateway" = "router"

        Does that help?

          I believe what the problem is the DNS, I typed ipconfig in the command prompt and it tlod me the computer IP address, subnet mask, and Default Gateway. I tried using the Default Gateway as the Primary Dns but that didnt work. Is there a way to find out my Dns? IN the Prompt above the computer IP it says :

          Connection-Specific DNS Suffix:

          And thats all. Is that the DNS im looking for?

          Hmm...  On the computer, could you please cut and paste the entire output of the command "ipconfig /all"?  That would help.
