And why are we replacing the U in Unix with an asterisk * ?
Shorthand for all the Unix variants; e.g. Linux, Minix, Dynix, Ultrix, Sinix, and all the other bits and bobs that don't contain the letters i, n and x.  (E.g. BSD, HP-UX, AIX, Solaris.)
Only able to visit the forums sporadically, sorry.

Be wary of Vista. It has been designed with HUGE DRM security and performance issues that should be of concern to any but the most casual users. These are showstopper problems that are just now coming to light.

Read the forums at www.grc.com and badvista.fsf.org for more info.

No, you won't need to buy different versions.  But, you should carefully consider the differences among the various versions before deciding which to get.  Here's some info from the mothership: The Editions

Do not like at all what I am hearing about Vista, and how MS is using it as a policeman on my PC. My next upgrade will be to Apple.

      Hello, gmanto,

Windows Vista will only cause problems, ideally, if you're into illegal software. Of course, there are bugs, but I haven't run into any, i.e. MS hasn't accused me of theft. :)
