Can Windows 2000 be Installed

Hi, I a new at messing with computers.  I have a systemax that is running Windows ME.  It has a Micro Star Mother board with AMD K7 CPU.  I was wondering, if or can, windows 2000 be run as a clean boot over the windows ME?  

One other thought is if I remove windows ME, would I be able to then install the Windows 2000 program?

I know one is DOS base and the other NT.  Just wondering how can I get windows 2000 on this pc.  Any replies welcome.

Boot with your legal Win2000 CD, press any key when asked and follow the prompts. Choose to format the drive during this process. Be sure and back up any needed data first as the drive will be erased.

Thanks for the reply GX1_man.  I thought it could but was not sure of compatibility since it windows is based on a different format.  I think I will try it.

 I have a new windows 2000.  Windows ME is not that popular so I was thinking of changing it out.  
I am glad that there is no need to erase the old ME program first.

You will be very happy with Win2K Pro...

Remember to grab the updates ...up to SP4 i believe.

I hope so.  One thing I always like is the automatic update feature from Microsoft.  That is discontinued with ME.  Also they have the virus program that will work on the 2K program.

Some of us here use Win2000 anmd not XP. All of the good stuyff, none of the fluff.

We've actually recruited some XP users to upgrade to Win2K Pro....
