Computer Hope Wiki
« on: February 13, 2007, 12:29:48 PM »
I've just completed and posted a very basic start to the Computer Hope Wiki. I believe and I'm sure others also believe that this will be a good partner and/or replacement for the forum FAQ's and possibly other Computer hope sections. This is just a very early setup so the possibilities are endless as far as what can be done. Feel free to make your own modifications, updates, or just play around with it.

Comments and/or suggestions are also welcome.

The majority of the CSS has been updated on the Wiki. In addition as an initial test I've also posted the forum FAQ's on the below page.

So you decided to go through with it, eh?

Glad to hear, it will be a great community run addition. Are you going to set things in a status que, or just let it be run by the entire commununity?

I highly reccomend that you start setting up the username and password feature, especially if you start getting lots of incorrect information, just to make sure you can track down the users who post.

I'll probably leave the Wiki open to all for the start, but when it starts to become an issue I'll worry about the registration. Still working out the whole integration of a Wiki into the Computer Hope mostly static help and information pages and the forums so open to suggestions on that, however I think it would be best to allow all users the ability to add and/or edit information.

Fantastic idea Nathan; much better than the current higgledy-piggledy FAQ system.  The wiki could prove to be CH's greatest strength (next to the forums, naturally).

I just hope you take very regular backups, so it doesn't die the usual vandalistic wikideath...

Your webhosting might have server-side backups (like something similar to cPanel) that may prove to be easier to use, since FTP backups take SO long.

You may also want to look into WebApplications that do just that (just backup before adding them, you never know what might happen if you just pull them off the web)

***pssst***  Zylstra.....  I'm pretty sure Nathan already has a fairly watertight backup policy.  ;)

    lol
I am sure as well, since CH has over 900 pages now in its database, and wouldent we all die if the forums were gone one day?
