.avi file to dvd-r
« on: February 24, 2007, 04:23:32 PM »
I have an .avi file and want to burn it onto a dvd-r so I can watch it on my dvd player.
I don't know if it is possible or not, and I know very little about computers. I would need step by step instructions if possible. Please reply if you can help me or just to let me know if it is possible.
Thank you kindley.
Chris.

Welcome to Computerhope, and Yes, it is possible. Go >here< and download the "WinAvi video converter. Install it. Open the program, click the "DVD" button. Then, just browse to the location of the avi video file, and then set an output directory(where you want the video to be when the conversion is complete). Finally click ok, and the converting will start. It takes a little while so be patient. When the conversion is complete, all you have to do is burn the "AUDIO_TS" and "VIDEO_TS" folders to a DVD+-R disc.

Thank you, there is HOPE! But 1  other question............................... ..........

Also when I add the VIDEO_TS file to Nero/DVD/Data disc area it says "WARNING"  "You have added DVD-Video content to a compilation type that will not result in a DVD-video compliant disc. To create disc playable in standalone DVD-video players, please use the DVD-video compilation type."
SO therefore I am assuming I am doing something wrong....I'm sorry but I still am lost here. Please if you can suggest anything...I would appreciate it....Is there still HOPE for this computer virgin?
    Thanks once again

I downloaded nero vision express and when opened it, it turned out to be Nero showtime which only allows me to watch the .avi file....so I have converted the .avi file to a .vob file but now dont know how to properly put in on a dvd-r disc to watch it on my home dvd player....
Still LOST....sorry for so many replies to my own thread, just trying to pool together as much info to make this work...
      Thanks Chris

Open Nero StartSmart and go to the Photo and Video tab, then click "Burn DVD-Video Files". After that, click Add, and then browse to the location of the .VOB, .IFO, and .BUP, and highlight all that fit that description, then click add, then finish. Finally continue burning onto your DVD-R. Hope that helps.
