thanks patio :)  Maybe I am missing something.....but right now I cannot get it out of scannow to backup my info....

2nd box is not emachine, but is 2.9ghz, diff CD drives.......dang.

Any ideas (I have apparently missed) how to get past the blue screen (get it out of autom scannow/blue screen/7B error) to where I can backup my info?????

Why can't you set the emachine hard drive as a slave in the other machine and get the imformation off and then put it back in the emachine and format and do a fresh install?

I am puzzled about that------>LOL.

that IS what I was hopng for, street, and did suggest.

Was hoping to just unhook harddrive from 1, unhook slave drive from #2,
hook #1 to previous #2 cables, put the box back together (2nd machine), and reboot.

But ap-purr-rently not....:)

You will have to jumper trhe drive as a slave when it goes in the second machine, and then put it back like it was when you are through.

I guess you understood what patio was telling you.

You can't just take some hard drive from some
machine and boot up with the XP on it in another
machine and expect no problems.

You appeared to be heading that way earlier in this
thread. :-?
