A quick and friendly reminder of information citations:
As some of you may remember, there was an issue at one time with a certain forum board on another website in India.
People were taking information directly from ComputerHope Forums, and then signing their name after it on their own posts on their own boards.
Now, as you may recall, this really ticked everyone here off.
I would like to take the quick time and remind you that whenever you are directly copying information, you need to:
1) Cite the information
OR
2) Put the address to the article/post below it.
OR
3) Head the information, for example, "I Found This at
www.computerhope.com"
For convenience of finding more information, it is recommended that instead of just posting the root of the website, that you post the actual location, like "I Found This at
www.computerhope.com/beep.htm " that way, the user looking at it, could click the link to get more information.
It works any way you want it to.
If you don't like it when people just take what you said, and call it theirs, then be sure to CITE!
Also:
Though it may seem like you are directing traffic away from a forum by posting links to the original information, it is quite the opposite. You are just helping people get their answers to their questions.
