MS Office '03 Pro Updates Will Not install
« on: April 20, 2007, 03:22:25 PM »
I just loaded MS Office 2003 Pro, and it has 13 critical updates to install. They have downloaded to my machine, but when I try and install them, installation fails. I don't know what is wrong? All my anti-virus, etc.. update without issue. Does anyone know about this?

    Hey welcome to the forum!

By chance,  are you "borrowing" this cd from someone ?
Is it a legal copy that you are using for the first time?

No, it had the product code with it. It can from an I.T. Tech that made this copy, but it came with the product code and loaded with no problem.

    Just to clarify for everyone:
Since the CD came from a business IT department, and has a business license, it can be given out in this manner.

Try running a regular Windows Update billhorne99. It may install it without any problems.

I tried to download this way, and it still failed. I paused my anti-virus/firewall and tried, and it still failed. I downloaded a scripting package that MS suggested, and tried to update...failed.

My school has that kind of license on so many programs. You just have to go the library and you can borrow the cd to install the program on your computer. Very neat.

Hey billhorne99. you never told us what OS you're using  :o

Maybe your antivirus has blocked MS Office's access to the internet so it can't install the updates?

If this was the case the DLoads would not have downloaded.

This sounds strange to me.  I just installed an update to Office 2003 yesterday.  The installation was automatic.  You must be taking a different approach than me.

I'm leary of that installer cleaner due it messing up other stuff. I'm running XP Media Center Ver. 2002.
I just downloaded the service pack 2 for Office 2003 a few hours ago, and there was no problem. I checked to see if Office 2003 needed to be verified, or activated...its already done. Its just those thirteen updates that will not install.

Have you tried the updates since installing the service packs?

I have used it in the past with absolutely no ill effects...we try to stay away from making recommendations that will wonk your system here at CH.

billhorne99, have you looked at the descriptions of those updates?  If I go to the Office Update page, it tells me I still have 7 "Required Updates".  But, when I read the descriptions, I really don't see the need for them.  One of them, Update for Office 2003 (KB925251), reads as follows: "Microsoft has released an update for Microsoft Office 2003. This update addresses the change from the Slovenian national currency to the euro."  I see no need for that.

Update for PowerPoint 2003 (KB929060) reads, "Microsoft has released an update for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003. When you edit a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 presentation that is saved on a SharePoint Portal Server site or on a Windows SharePoint Services site, the changes are not saved."   I am not using PowerPoint 2007 and I do not save PowerPoint presentation on a SharePoint Portal Server site or on a Windows SharePoint Services site.  So, here again, I see no need for it.

Likewise, the others also seem unnecessary.  I know this doesn't actually resolve your issue, but it may be worth considering.
