old ways of locking files
« on: April 30, 2007, 03:34:13 PM »
many years ago I remember being able to lock files with a dos command at the c: prompt.

haven't had much need until now to lock them.

does anyone remember how?

You could make them Read-Only or Hidden (or system or archive) by using this code in Command Prompt:

+R = Read-Only
+H = Hidden
+S = System
+A = Archive
Code: [Select]
attrib +(insert option here) "C:\(file path)"

Then again, that's pretty basic. But what do you mean locking anyway?

If anyone ahs an answer on how to password protect files on a computer (especcially for on Vista) pm me please.
