Internet Safety
« on: May 08, 2007, 09:06:07 PM »
A lot of people refuse to believe it, but it happens.
I'm not going to cover the truth with fluffy clouds.

People get raped, stalked, and harassed.

Your anonymity is a right. You have the right to privacy.

Being that this is a forum, and that it can happen in any chat place on the Internet, I am going to go ahead and make this a sticky for a while, and I hope that you will all take a look.

This is a video I ran across quite some time ago, and if you are under the age of 18, I strongly encourage you to watch it
http://www.wiseuptoit.com.au/stalking_sarah.html

Its no fiction story. It happens every day.

Ever had this happen to you? Tell us about it
Comments or questions? Feel free to reply

The Internet is not a safe place, and its not just because of adware and viruses.

Afraid of telling your parents that someone is stalking you?
How about being afraid of getting yourself abused.

We had this person came into school and talk to us about internet safety and stuff.
Who here actually has a myspace account? or like a blog site or a site with their information like age, name, location?

I have a myspace

People that know my first name, and last: 2
People that know my first name: 3
People that know my last name: All of you
People that know my location: 2

I keep well track of the people who know me, and if they know anything about me, I am sure that I know them.

Just because you think you trust someone does not mean that you can trust them.

I've met my fair share of girls online (just for fun; not with romantic motives) and I always tell them that they're crazy for meeting me because I could be an online predator.  Then I give them teddy bears and candy and throw them in the back of my van.

I'd say about 95% of us probably do.

If you are not careful, I am going to burst out loud laughing and my mother is going to give me a strange look

Everyone on this forum knows my first and last name.
But I NEVER post my adress, phone number ,places where I go,... on the internet.
I think that if you do the same thing there is no way someone can track you. (Whitout hacking your PC)

You have the logic of a 14-year-old.

No *censored*, sherlock? Maybe 'you said it' is just an expression because 'you typed it' doesn't sound half as good.

What crawled up your *censored* all of a sudden?

I'd be flattered is someone took it upon themselves to make me the be-all, end-all of their life.  Imagine the ego boost!  :P
