Resolved titles?

You are very welcome, and thank you very much for posting back your solution.

This topic has been marked as Resolved as part of a new ComputerHope plan

Feel free to come back for more help anytime if needed

Is CH starting to impliment a Resolved title on the top of topics when they are finished? Then maybe we could add titles to ones that are heading Off-Topic, but aren't in the Off-Topic board (because some posts I have seen have just broken done to something that isn't helpful at all).

I leave it up to the moderators to do this at this point. Right now I believe it would be too hard to manually lock and mention every topic is closed because it's been resolved. Trying to work on getting a forum mod installed to do this more easily but something that's not yet implemented.

As far as topics that are going to off-topic, really up to the mods again to make the judgment call to mark a topic as off-topic and lock it. But as far as moving a topic to the off-topic section I don't think that would be a good idea, since it was originally intended as a question.

If something isn't getting resolved it would be up to the user who posted the question to remind people posting that they're still encountering the issue and are still looking for a resolution.

Hope that helps..

It'd be nice if locking resolved/abandoned topics was a bit easier.  I think this would be nice to have over in Virus section; I really don't want to have to bother the mods every time I think a topic should be locked.  If all it took was a single click or two, I'd be more inclined.  I know I wouldn't mind manually locking topics (I'm a very bored person when I'm not in school), but I really doubt the mods want that extra work.  Ha.

The mods do seem to be implementing this a lot more.
And what happened to the abandoned virus threads being locked, did that go out the window?
Or do I just not visit that section enough to notice?

Is that a *hint hint* make me a moderator?

I guess you could say it went out the window in a way.  oddjob's been pretty busy and dl65 is somewhat selective about where he posts, so I've been doing a lot of the log analyzing lately and I guess it can be a little difficult keeping track of which threads should or shouldn't be locked while trying to do all of that.  So, I just tend to not bother with asking the mods to do it.  It'd be nice to have a little "Request this thread to be locked" checkbox when I make posts.  Heh.  Of course, such a feature would likely be abused by some of our members.

What?!  Hint?!  I'm straight-up demanding it!  Ha, no, I honestly didn't mean to imply that.  Raptor mentioned it to me once, but I think he was hoping I'd go on a banning spree.  Heh.  Personally, if we were electing mods, I'd nominate you.  I actually sometimes forget that you're not one.

EDIT:  I just went over my last post again and that really does sound like a blatant hint, doesn't it?

I need to sleep more.

I was wondering what happened to it.
I noticed you're one of the most active in the virus section now, I'd like to help but I know very little about viruses on the level you're on.  I can clean basic viruses but a HJT log confuses me no end.
The "request lock" idea would be good, but as always someone would abuse it.

That's nice of you.
There are a lot of people I always think are moderators, then remember they're not.
Funny.
It did sound like a hint, but I was only joking around.

Let's all be moderators!  We can have Moderator Day!  Ha.

Thankfully, it's usually not too hard.  There are times, though, when certain infections can be pretty challenging.  Especially if it's one you haven't personally dealt with.  There are a lot of canned fixes available, but unfortunately, they don't always cover special cases, such as certain needed aspects of a computer not working, or what to do if the fix doesn't work.  Then you've got to dig around for solutions.  Some of the people who have been doing this for awhile have already overcome these obstacles, so they're a bit quicker.  I'm still just a young padowan.  Heh.  You'd be a good addition to the fight against malware.  You're a smart guy and I'm confident that you could face the various challenges.  It is, however, a long learning process.

I may start learning more about viruses, especially now that school's finished I have lots of time so I could try I guess.
I'm confident with small scale infections, but trying to identify them or remove complicated ones is beyond me, mainly because I haven't had to deal with any.

That's the beauty of a malware training course: they teach you all sorts of techniques for identifying infections.  Google, CastleCops, and KeyNotes will become your new best friends.
