Hibernation
« on: June 01, 2007, 11:59:15 AM »
When launching Windows XP, the computer has started to automatically go into hibernation, not allowing a user to logon.  Help!

    Laptop?  PC? Hardware specs?

If it's a laptop, has it got a feed to the mains?  It could be that it just "sees" the battery, and that the battery is low, and therefore hibernates.

    But we'll need more info.

No it is a PC, running Windows XP.  This machine was fine earlier today but now,it launches Windows on switch-on but automatically launching hibernation almost simultaneously as Logon appears.

      Hardware?

      How old is the PSU?

How long ago was it cleaned (inside the case)?

Does it go into hibernate mode when you bring it out of hibernate mode?

try safe mode... what did you change on the machine before this started??

go to control panel power options and put hibernation on never then restart

I can't log on to get it out of hibernation.  This started after changing the DVD drive.  It just goes into hibernation and then shuts down.  I've tried diconnecting the new DVD but it hasn't helped

Hold down F8 when you first start up your computer... before Windows starts loading.

What we're trying to tell you is that it should not happen in Safe mode.  Then, you'll be able to change settings and then restart in normal mode.
