June poll
« on: June 03, 2007, 05:19:10 PM »
For the month of June we thought it would be interesting to see what you're using to store your backup data if you're backing up your data. In the past most users would have only been using floppy diskettes to store their important files. However, today there are several different methods a user could backup their files.

If you chose other for this months poll make sure to also mention what device you're using to store your backups.

All past monthly polls and results can be found on the Computer Hope poll page.

I am using Windows Vista, so I have a scheduled backup to occur on a separate partition. That wont protect against hard drive failure, but it will (to a certain point) protect against some viruses, and still archive some of my files.
I also backup to another computer over the network
I also use DVD's and CD's, depending on the media I am backing up
I also use a flash drive

But its different for all different types of media

I back up everything every month on a portable hard drive I have especially for backing up. Right now it's in my cabinet, just backed up like 3 days ago.
I also ocasionally backup my Flash Drive on anothe rpartition on my Drive.
Who backs up on a floppy anymore? ZIP disk is understandable but floppies suck.
You put it in a warm place and the data gets corrupted and it holds so little....
I used to back up on DVD's but now I burn a lot of movies so I needed the CD's

Well, I don't back-up.... But I will one day! (maybe next Monday...)

The CDs I have never work, so I can't really back up my files.

I use an external HDD, and sometimes a flash drive as well.

I have a 40GB hard drive that I use for files that I access regularly. I use DVD's for files I don't use often. I also have a 1GB flash drive for transfering important school files to and from school.

Who backs up on a floppy anymore? ZIP disk is understandable but floppies suck.

Considering I only have 1 floppy drive among 4 computers, I don't using floppy disks at all anymore.

    I use a 500GB external HDD.
All my important data goes on this, very handy :)

When I was a naive nooblet and didn't think I would get a virus because "my system is safe," I managed to go through 4 complete reformat/install Windows in the space of a month before I finally decided to start backing up my data. :-\

Poor me, I'm still stuck with CD-R's.  CD-R's that only work 50% of the time, it seems.  Thankfully, I now know a lot more about computers, so I can fix most of the problems that normally forced me to reformat in the past.  Learning how to slave a harddrive also comes in handy.

Don't back up. Used to on network drive, but then stopped. Good idea to start again I think. Thanks for reminding. :)

Before I actually knew what I was doing, reformatting was my solution to everything ha. Suppose the best way to learn is to make mistakes though.

It really depends on the media I want to backup, but for backing up the contents of my local drive, I use an external USB hard drive.

For my old 1996 laptop, I might occasionally use a floppy... for backing up the occasional Word for DOS document...

Well,in the poll I voted CD-R (Burnable CD).

I also use my slave hard drive. So,I couldn't
choose both now could I ?
