Is everybody just being incredibly naive here?  That seems to be the case.  Frankly, if I were CH Admin, I might also be inclined to block an image promoting a competing forum.

A competing forum?  You have to be kidding, right?  Have you seen the member stats on my forum as opposed to Computer Hope's?

I've been to lot's of forums..same genre as this one.  I've also had a previous sig on this forum under the username "Saviour" linking to my forum....and it was allowed.  I left...and came back....now Admin won't allow it.  BTW...I'm sure he got traffic to this site the same way...by posting or linking on other's sites.  My forum even links to this site...

Look...I'm not pointing fingers here...and I could really care less if anyone on this forum thinks I'm a "spammer"...of which I am not, BTW.

I'm a contributor...and have been since I originally joined this forum.  That was my sole intention...and always has been.

Here's a little kick in the pants for ya...just posting a link in a sig to a (in your words) "competing forum", isn't going to damage this site's reputation...if anything it would help since both forums cover the same topics.  Search Engine Optimization goes both ways, as far as relevancy goes...sites linking in...and those you link to.  There's a big difference between the link in my sig and one that links to porn...affiliates...etc., etc.

There are a few people in this forum who think I'm out to ruin this site, spam it...or whatever.  To them, I say..."Grow up!"  I think they think they're better than most...which is a bad attitude to have.  BTW...it shows when they post.  Who am I to judge?  I'm not judging...just stating the facts.

    Oh...and one more thing...
Just because there is a link in a sig to a "competing forum" doesn't mean that individual is trying to steal members...

If you're standing on a bridge and decide to jump...then who made that decision?  If you go to another site and decide to join then who made that decision?  Did I twist your arm?  I think not.

Look...I'm not trying to start an argument, but someone here will take offense to this post and have their rant...which is fine...everyone is entitled to an opinion and I have just stated mine.

Per a CH member's PM...I have removed the link in my sig, however...the link to my site is allowed in my profile...strange...don't ya think?  I've also removed the link to my image in a previous post in this thread...I'll also remove the link code I was trying to use from a previous post in this same thread...so other members won't get flamed because they were testing it to see where the problem was.

So no hurt feelings here...okay?  So, after this post...let's just let the issue die.

BTW...I'm still linking to this site, regardless...both on my main site...and my forum.

I see street1's sig, so I don't see how it could be a restriction on usergroups either.
Anyway, everyone's had their say I believe.
So let's just drop it, there's nothing more to say and the issue no longer matters even though it was not resolved, the link/image has not been added to The Saviour's signature.

Sorry for the late reply (this will also be sent to your PM Saviour) took a two day break from the forums while doing another major update to several thousand more Computer Hope pages

As can be hopefully seen by the above example, I had no issues posting a signature with a banner image. So hopefully you've figured it all out. If not, either mention on this post or send me another PM with the exact code you're using so I can try it out for myself.

Users who dislike loading avatars or signatures can easily disable this feature through their profile settings under "Look and Layout Preferences"

As far as users posting banner images in their signatures I'm also not a fan of it. However, that being said I also don't consider it to be against the forum rules, if it's done elegantly. In other words no flashing banners or absolutely huge ads.

Honestly I've done a lot of testing and text links work A LOT better in signatures than images as most users will have ad blindness to it, have the feature disabled, and/or dislike the images (or time taken to load image) so much they'll avoid it.

Finally, I'm all for helping members with other helps sites, web pages, or forums who actively participate in the forums to advertise in their signature I think it's only fair. Of course users who don't elegantly advertise (as mentioned above), have sites that contain illegal information, contain inappropriate material, or are sites I or other users consider scams (e.g. free ipod) are not tolerated and will result in bans.

Are we free to use that Nathan?
I'm assuming you mean the signature banner picture? If so, by all means 'yes', you're more than welcome to use that image. Several banners (including example I used), buttons, and other links are posted on the below link.

    Nathan...

I want to thank you for taking the time and getting this out in the open...

You know how I am...sometimes I can pe a real pain in the neck, but at no time would I ever intentionally blatantly spam your forum.

I can also understand other members looking out for your site...especially if they've been given a staff title.  They're only looking out for the community.

Hopefully they'll understand that I'm not trying to act as a competing forum...quite the contrary...after giving this a lot of thought...and I mean some long deliberation...speaking to some of the (who I feel) more sane members of this community...I consider Computer Hope to be more like a sister site and have replaced the link to your site back to three locations within my domain...my main site...that site's link directory...and on the forum.  There it will remain...never to be moved again.

Thanks for replying to this thread...I'll test it out when I get the chance to make a little modification to the banner image I'd like to post in the signature.
