« on: June 08, 2007, 09:05:57 PM »
Ok I have an HP pavilion 764c  it has a 4x AGP slot.   I am lookin for the best availbale graphics card for under 300 dollars?

Other question is:   Can an 8x AGP run in a 4x slot?

Thanks

cool  ;D

i'd say something similar to an nVidia GeForce 7950 GT

i got one a couple of months ago for a friend that would be about 280 american dollars

you can get better ones for close to that price depending on where you go  ;)

been looking at that one but I only have a 250 watt power supply and dont think that one will work with that low of a power supply.

Yes.

A power supply suggestion: FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX400-PN, RoHS, 12cm FAN, version 2.2, 2 SATA, 20+ 4 pin, PCI Express, 400W Power Supply - Retail.  I've been using one of these for 5 months.

Get a new PSU and shop around.
Check out the GPU FAQ (FAQ section - Hardware - Choosing a GPU) for an idea of where each card comes in the general line-up.
Make sure you get an AGP card - most cards out there are PCI-E now.
I'm not in the US so I don't know about prices, but I do know about video cards.
