« on: June 29, 2007, 12:26:19 AM »
I got this email from most of my friends. The usually send me chainmails that I never look at. 'send this to 20 people and your wish will come true' Bull-*censored* (sorry for language)
Anyways, I got this one. Sorry if it's hard to read.

>>Hey, it is Andy and John the directors of MSN, sorry for the interruption
>>but MSN is closing down. This is because too many inconsiderate people are
>>taking up all the name (eg making up lots of different accounts for just
>>one person), we only have 578 names left. If you would like to close your
>>account, DO NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE ON. If you would like to keep your
>>account, then SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACTLIST. This is
>>no joke, we will be shutting down the servers. Send it on, thanks.WHOEVER
>>DOES NOT SEND THIS MESSEAGE, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE CLOSED AND YOU WILL COST
>>£10.00 A MONTH TO USE. SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST.NOW YOU
>>KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE DO NOT FORWARD THIS or REPLAY. COPY THE WHOLE
>>EMAIL. GO BACK TO YOUR INBOX AND CLICK ON NEW. AND PASTE THANK YOU FOR
>>YOUR ATTENTION
>>Hey everyone, i dont normally send this sort of stuff out but had a look
>>on the internet and itsactually true . On the 30th of november , we will
>>have to pay for the use of our MSN and email accounts unless we send this
>>message to at least 18 contacts on your contact list. It's no joke if you
>>don't believe me then go to the site
>>(http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/1189119.stm) and see for
>>yourself.Anyways once you've sent thismessage to at least 18 contacts,
>>your msn dude will become blue. please copy and paste don't forward cos
>>people won't take notice of it!Amni

This isn't real...is it? I haven't heard anything and if they were going to delete accounts, they would email you privately. Stupid chainmail.
Ive seen the site posted up in the message last year so it can't be true. Just want to know what you guys think.

Completely a bulk chain-letter

Your best defense is to delete it

A while ago, Microsoft stopped allowing its users to use the HTTP Outlook Express mail protocol (like POP3 or IMAP, but it sorts into folders like the web version)

Their "warning" was absolutely nothing like this, it was a personal email stating that all users who have registered before the change data will continue to be able to use POP3/HTTP email.

www.truthorfiction.com is great for tall-tales like these

I've had it dozens of times, Hotmail's spam filter seems ineffective against chain emails like this.
More reasons not to use it.
Seriously, if you read the article it links to you would realise it's just another pathetic chain email.
Ignore it, destroy it.  And do the same to the sender.

So I have to destroy 9 of my friends? I think i'll just destroy the messages.
They are all not computer-smart so of course they would believe this. The link to the bbc thing looks really real but of course if this was really happening, hotmail would contact you privately.

No, the link actually is a real link, talking about how MSN plan to make some services paid-for.
However, it stresses that Hotmail will remain free.
So the email is a load of rubbish.
And your second point is valid.
Anything important that happens, you will be made aware officially, not through a friend of a friend.

Most email filters SPAM emails via Sender ID's, addresses, and verifications.
They dont tend to block your average user

Half of the time, what gets a spammers email junked so fast is that they decide to spoof their emails with a fake address.
(Eg: Sending from [email protected] and making it look like its from [email protected] )
(Those emails are completely fake, so there is no need to remove them.)

If you use MySpace, you'll often get messages just like this.

Kinda reminds me of the bulk e-mail stating that Microsoft plans on paying anyone who forwards the e-mail.  If things like this were real, you could definitely expect people everywhere to be talking about it.

its funny cos that email has been circulating for about 2 and a half years!!!
