A 75-year-old woman in Sweden who has never owned a computer before now has the WORLD'S FASTEST HOME INTERNET CONNECTION -- a whopping 40 Gigabits per second. (That's fast enough to download a hi-def movie in two seconds.) Her son is Cisco executive Peter Löthberg, who arranged the connection as a demonstration of how long-distance, ultra fast connections are inexpensive and easy to set up. The most difficult part of all this was reportedly installing Windows.

Isn't the hard drive write speed for a SATA-II drive only 3.0 gigabits per second? I'd say if we're getting speeds well into the gigabit ranges then hard drives need to catch up, possibly among other things?

You know that if a hacker had that internet connection and a firewall protecting secure files went down even for a few seconds, he could get heaps of stuff. So maybe it's best that the fastest internet goes to a little old lady who wouldn't harm anyone

This makes my 100MBPS Fiber connection look slow

Most servers are on slower connections then my internet, so I don't really see a lot of difference between this and Cable, but some things are faster, like Torrents.

Deltaslaya has a point though... they will need to improve HDD write speeds soon, considering they could easily improve internet speed standards.

that doesn't matter. you'd need a massive stick of ram. say, 40 gig?
and you can still only go from ram >>> HDD as quickly as the HDD will allow anyway.

Only 40GB would be needed if you were viewing a 40GB website.
If you were to have a browser that stored the Cache in the RAM instead of on the hard drive (Disabling Cache would be useful) then it would be much faster

I think Cache would still be important.

For example:
My internet connection (fiber) is 100MBPS
Most speed testing websites cant even match my connection, either because they are on a slower connection, or because it ends up running through a slower server.

Since a lot of servers out there are on a slow connection, I use Google Web Accelerator, since it tends to be able to access things better.

But, on faster servers, like Microsoft, I do notice quite the difference between Fiber and Cable.
