XP keeps rebooting
« on: August 19, 2007, 07:58:23 AM »
I have a virus that I picked up through a link in an email.  Now when I log on my computer keeps rebooting.

I have tried Safe mode & disabling auto restart on failure.

Mark ???

What happens when you try Safe Mode?  It still reboots?

What about Last Known Good Configuration?

No...doesn't matter what I try it still reboots as soon as your enter you password on the logon screen.

There is a  post earlier this am...about "Continuous Rebooting"  I think this is the same problem.

Reboot loops can be a bit difficult to diagnose sometimes.  How comfortable are with working on the inside of the computer?  If you're comfortable with doing so, I would suggest first ensuring that everything is properly seated.  You will want to take proper ESD precautions, of course.

And do you have the Windows/recovery CD(s) that should've come with the computer?

The easiest solution may be to slave your drive to backup any important data and then reformat your computer.
