Are you saying the program you just downloaded and installed needs access to the Internet, but can't?

If so, check your firewall settings to make sure this program is "allowed".

What program are you referring to?  I mean, what did you download and install that can't access the Internet?

What firewall program are you currently using?

Windows security system firewall.
I have downloaded Napster, Epocrates, Google Earth, my son's NickJr games.  All download fine and programs pull up but will not work d/t a problem with communication with the program and the internet.

So Sorry,
Wasnt trying to offend anyone.  I posted them on different areas bc I wasnt sure exactly what kind of issue this was.  I got the Earthlink Accelerator fixed but I can still not connect to the internet via software.  Here is an example:
"We're sorry--- the server has encountered an internal error (11) while processing you request.  Please try again later.

Here is a message I got from own of the sites I am having problems with...

Thank you for contacting Nick Arcade.

The error message you received is generated when your game is unable to
contact our registration server to verify your purchase.

Ad-blocking software, home firewalls, or other security software
(Norton, ZoneAlarm, etc.) may affect your ability to register your game.
Temporarily disable any ad-blockers or firewalls you have running.

If you use Windows Vista, Microsoft has included new security features
not previously found in other versions of their Operating Systems. These
features may prevent you from downloading, installing or registering
content from web sites, including NickArcade.

Please refer to the built-in help section of Vista to learn more about
its new security features.

You may also wish to refer to Microsoft's support page found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx

To unlock your game, enter the email address and password you provided
at time of purchase. This information can be found in the confirmation
email you received at the time you purchased your game. Once you enter
your email address and password, the full version of the purchased game
will unlock.

To avoid errors when entering your email address and password, the best
thing to do is copy and paste it directly into the activation field.

To copy: Use your mouse to select your email address or password, then
press the Ctrl and C keys simultaneously.

To paste: Click in the box where the email address or password is to be
entered, then press the Ctrl and V keys simultaneously.

IMPORTANT:

*If your email address contains a mix of lower-case and upper-case
letters, try entering your email address in all lower-case letters.

*You must be connected to the Internet before attempting to unlock your
game.

*Temporarily disable any personal firewalls or antivirus software that
will block you from connecting to our key servers.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

Regards,
Nick Arcade Customer Support

This still does not work

You may want to disable some of the add-ons within Internet Explorer 7...if you have it and are running Vista.

Go to the Tools menu in your browser's Toolbar and disable any phishing filters or pop-up blockers, temporarily to see if this fixes the problem.

Also check the "add-ons" that I mentioned before to see if any of your malware protection is using a browser add-on that may be interfering with the site.

If the above doesn't help with your situation...you may want to try the Firefox browser from Mozilla.

Just a note...I'd be a little leary of visiting sites that specifically mention you may have to change or disable your security features in order for the site to work properly.  You're just leaving yourself open for infection or some other trouble.

Also...try to stay away from P2P (Peer-to-Peer) programs...

Do you really know what you are getting?

'Nuff said...

I now have The earthlink accelerator off of my computer totally.  But I can still only use the programs to communicate with their internet servers when I am in safe mode?!  Any more ideas.
Thanks

Try re-installing your network card drivers.
They will be on the CD labeled MBoard drivers that came with the machine...

I dont have a CD like that but I had one with drivers for my modem and reinstalled that and ran diagnostics on my modem and it found nothing wrong.
