The DVD's you have should be fine for this.  We need a bit more info here...

We know the brand of your computer, but what model is it?
What are the make and model of your drive?  It is a DVD-RW drive, right?
What program are you using to burn these files?
Have you ever performed this task before?

However I think it may need it to be done?
I have had this computer for almost a year now & the computer currently shows that there is only 50 HDD left on it.

Am I mistaken in trying to doe this?

As long as you have a dvd-r (DVD writer), you should be able to write to blank DVD's.

You have to have a DVD R/W driver if you want to use DVD-RW's (Those special DVD's that you can burn and erase as many times as you feel)

If you only have a DVD=R writer, then, you can only use DVD+R or DVD-R medica (Those DVD's that allow you to burn stuff to it, but cannot erase and rewrite)

What program and/or method are you using to do this ? ?
A DVD will show up blank because nothing has been burned to it.
Do you have Nero or Roxio or any other burner program on that machine ? ?
    If so try with them.
If not DLoad and install CDBurner XPPro.

    Joap,

    I hope this help.

The DVD that you've bought is not supported by your DVD drive.

You've mentioned that your DVD drive support DVD+R and DVD+RW,
but the DVD that you've got is DVD-R.

    Double check this info.

I had the same problem before with my Acer. So I bought only DVD RW (my machine support both DVD+RW, and DVD-RW, your should too.)

    support DVD+R  Double Layer/ DVD+RW
You can only use media, which are marked with "+":
    DVD+RW, DVD+R, CD+RW, CD+R
    That's it.
