RAM install problem
« on: December 02, 2007, 07:20:28 AM »
I went to install my new RAM, I ordered two Kingston 1024MB PC2100 266KHZ Non-Ecc to replace the 512 MB RAM that is already in, TigerDirect checked it's compatibility and it matches the manual (supports DDR SDRAM PC2100 /PC1600).  The motherboard is a K7VTA3 Version 6. I grounded myself and removed the old RAM and installed 1 board first to see if it worked which it did and it registered the extra RAM. I then installed the other board and it would not reboot. The PC makes an audible long beep sound. I checked the seating of both boards and still could not get it to reboot. I replace the two new boards with the old original 512MB still nothing. A friend suggested to remove the battery and then replace and try again still nothing. Could anyone offer any suggestions ? Thank You, because I am stumped.

Try cleaning the contacts. This can be done with a cotton swab and a tiny bit of alcohol. Use extreme care when doing so and allow sufficient time for it to completely and thoroughly dry.

There are only two slots for the RAM Memory, the first slot on the left hand side had the original memory board in it.

Here  is the link to your MBoard manual...
It's possible Tiger Direct was mistaken.
