disk space

well several of my drives show more disk space occupied then there's material present in them.i know the concept of hidden files.so dont tell me that there must be hidden files that im not takin into account.

windows xp.....well if i click on the drive n click on properties...its like i get 3 gb free space.......but when i open the drive n select all the files(including hidden ones)free space comes out to b more than 3 gb....

    Click start, run, type in CMD and hit enter.  Once the prompt comes up type in CHKDSK C: and hit enter.  (Or if it's the D drive in question, type CHKDSK D:, etc.)

    Let it scan the disk, and see if any bad sectors are reported.

    Also, "hidden files" doesn't include system files.
