Ok to move hardware from one case to another?
« on: December 28, 2007, 06:38:13 PM »
I recently purchased a name brand PC to replace one I built myself a couple years ago.   I upgraded the video card and PSU, but was comfortable with everything else.

Problem is that when playing graphically intensive games the machine will lock up which I attribute the video card over heating since the only has one fan.  My old case has 7.  Does anyone foresee any problems with stripping the old tower and replacing the parts with the ones from my new machine?

placing your components in a different case will not cause any problems, barring that you do not damage the components in the process and that you do not hook everything up incorrectly of course.

i would suggest labelling all your connections before disconnecting them, to make it easy to put it all back together. ;)

Why not move a fan or two out of your old case into the new one?  Seems to me some time spent on improving the cooling in your new system may be the best solution.

Think I voided the warranty installing the video card.

Not sure where I would attach more fans.
