    quick question
    « on: December 28, 2007, 12:08:27 AM »
ok, after a couple of weeks of googling, messing with hardware and softwear. i figured out my onboard usb drives on my motherboard get power, but do not get enough power to sync my ipod, use my flash drives and such.

so i am planning on getting a usb pci card so i can use all my usb stuff.

my only concern is that the usb still wont work on that because of the above problem.
all of my PCI cards work well, including my sound card, ethernet card, and my agp video card.
so this may be a dumb question but i just want to make sure it will work before i buy.

so should a usb pci card work for my usb needs?

thanks for anyone that can help

but do not get enough power

as in, you have enough USB ports, but not all of them work?

Have you considered an externally powered USB hub?

It depends if our useing an older pc or not some of the new stuff uses a faster usb speed.  So if you get a card it should work okay if any of your other devices works its probably that.

ok, what i mean by it does not get enough power, is that i think they all should work, but they are not getting enough power from the motherboard.

i put in my ipod, doesnt work, even though the usb port is usb 2.0. i put in a little extra keyboard usb powered light into the usb. the light turns on for half a second then shuts off. put in a very low powered usb light christmas tree, it stays on.

im getting power just not enough.

as for the externally powered usb hub. i dont know exactly what you mean by that. if i have to plug it into my computers usb hub it wont work cause i dont get enough power.

the usb drives used to work about 4 months ago, but then stopped shortly after the computer crashed. i think when the computer crashed they screwed up and may not be usable. but all the pci slots, agp slots, processer, memory, ect get full power to them, but the usb do not. even though the computer says "doy, this device is working properly"

so thats why im asking about the usb pci card. since i have full power to all my pci and agp devices, should the usb's on the pci card work
