Apple G5 connecting through a switcher
    « on: January 12, 2008, 01:54:11 PM »
I have a apple G5 and a Windows PC I connected a Link 5 port switcher to a Link ADSL modem. The PC goes onto the net fine but the Mac won't. Do I need a special switcher for the Mac to connect. If I plug the modem direct into the apple it will go onto the net but not through the switcher.
What do I need to do? Regard Ojas

Are you saying that you are using a router?
What kind of connection are you using, ethernet?
What Apple OS are you using?
(If your not using OSX, you are going to have a very difficult time getting it to work with its promised "ease of use" compared to Windows)

No using a D-Link ADSL Single port modem connected to a 5 port switcher.

How are you connecting your internet? USB, Firewire, or Ethernet?

So you have a modem connected to a switch with two computers attached?
Do the modem have a built in router?
How many IPs is your ISP giving you?
The reason I ask is because most consumer internet products only come with one external IP. If you only have one external IP and want to share it between several computer you need a router.
Else one computer will be given the IP and the rest will not be able to get online.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
