    ipconfig won't work--SOLVED
    « on: January 26, 2008, 05:39:55 PM »
I'm using Win XP Home Ed. and when I type "cmd" in the Run box, then type "ipconfig" or "ipconfig /all", I get the following message:

'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

ipconfig.exe is in my Windows\System32 folder as a 55kb application, and the command worked in the past.  I don't understand why it quit working.

Could someone help me fix this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It may be about wrong path settings.
    To find out, try this.
In cmd window, at Command Prompt, type in this:
cd \windows\system32 (watch out for "space" after "cd")
Now, your prompt should look like this:
    C:\Windows\System32
    Try ipconfig /all command now.

Hey there again Broni.  U helped me a couple of wks. ago on a stupid mistake I was making with my Programs List not being in alphabetical order (and they really were all along).

The command u just gave me worked.  Thanks.  Wonder why I can't just type in 'ipconfig' in the cmd window like I used to?

      Go Start>Control Panel>System>Advanced>Environmental variables
Select "path" under "system variables" and click "edit".
Make sure, in the "variable value box" following values (along with some others) are listed:
      %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\wbem

      If any is missing, you can add it in the above window. Make sure, entries are separated by semicolon ;

Thanks so much Broni--worked like a charm.  U need to give yourself a raise.  BTW, how do I mark this thread as "Solved"?
