MS 2000 PROFESSIONAL... NEED HELP WITH C/WINNT
« on: January 23, 2008, 06:23:11 PM »
I BOUGHT A LAPTOP FROM EBAY FOR THE PURPOSE OF GETTING ONLINE AND PLAYING VIDEO FILES FROM CD-DISK. IT CAME WITH WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL. IN THE "C" DRIVE IT HAS C/WINNT NOT A FILE CALLED "C/WINDOWS"......I CAN GET ONLINE TO SURF O.K.....BUT I CAN'T PLAY ANY VIDEO FILES FROM DISK. I CAN NOT DOWNLOAD ANY NEWER MEDIA PLAYER FROM THE WEB AND I CAN NOT EVEN LOAD A DIFFERENT OPERATING SYSTEM LIKE "XP".
CAN ANYBODY OFFER SOME INSIGHT INTO WHAT I MIGHT POSSIBLY TRY?

That's exactly how it should be...

You sure you're not trying to play a dvd disk on a cd player?

Which media player do you currently use and which one do you want to download?

Operating systems are 'installed' not loaded.  Do you want to upgrade to a version of XP, if so do you have an unused upgrade cd or a genuine, unused full version cd complete with COA?

Please post back with details of your laptop and any error messages which are displayed.

Why not?  Have you tried downloading WMP9 from MS at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/9series/default.aspx

Why not?  What software are you using?

Have you checked for Win2k updates recently?  Win2k is up to SP4 is it installed on your system?

See here for the decompressor error message and check the file type you are trying to play against the supported WMP file types.  You may have to download a third-party decompressor for your file type or use a file converter.

If your looking for a media player give this one a try...

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

I am not really a big MS player fan. I have used VLC player for a while and really like it. Plays just about anything and is easy to use.
