    WinDVD for Win98SE
    « on: January 28, 2008, 03:53:52 PM »
    Hi there,
I am desperately looking for the version of WinDVD which will work without problem with my system (Windows 98SE).  Will somebody please give me some ideeas as to where I can get that version if it is still available at all.  Thanks.

Thank you Broni.  I've never considered using this version because I though this version was only only good for Win XP and Vista.  Anyway, I'll give it a trial.  Your help is appreciated.

        Hi Broni,
I was right in a way:  I could not install this version (WinDVD v8) because it  requires system 2000 Service Pack 3!
Perhaps, an earlier version would serve my purpose; but which version should I try?

It's weird, because it says Win 98 compatible. There is version 7 here: http://www.amazon.com/InterVideo-WINDVD-Gold-Playback-Software/dp/B0009RJWE4, but you may want to contact Intervideo to make sure what version will work with 98.

I took a quick look at the site provided; I understand that WinDVD 7 is compatible with Wwin 98, but they don't give us an opportunity to try it out first.  So I guess I have to contact Inter/Video before buying as you suggested.  In the mean time, I would like to hear from other Win98SE users about their experience of WinDVD.

          I recommend VLC.

VLC can play dvd's as well as pretty much any other type of video/audio.

          You can get it at

            Hello,
                 Thanks for the response.
I know VLC is a very popular DVD player, but personally, I found its display capability is not that good (the pictures are a bit choppy), that is why I am looking for something else.  I understand that the choppiness is not VLC's fault, but my OS's.

If it's the OS's fault, winDVD isn't going to help.

I tried using VLC and I know how good it is for my system; I have never tried WinDVD, that is why I need some information from those who are using Win98SE and have the experience with WinDVD.  Exactly what I want to know is which version of WinDVD would work with Win98SE and where to get it.

Honestly, in my experience with 98se, if you're having issues with choppiness in vlc, which is a pretty low-key video player... you're not going to have better luck with WinDVD.

Your issue may be something like too little ram, or too little disk space (with fat 32, the less hard drive space you have, the slower your pc runs... that is... once it hits the 50% capacity mark and more)

I am not convinced until I have a chance to try WinDVD myself.  Just help me find a copy of WinDVD that is compatible with Win98SE, please.

I just visited   www.oldversion.com   to have a look around.
Didn't see it.   You might want to have a look yourself, just to be sure.

But I did find this, in their forum:

                .

Wish I could help, but I don't know where to find the old version.  My only suggestion was vlc.

If you contact InterVideo ask them for a Trial version of WinDVD 5.0 which was released for Win98...
I still think it's the hardware and not the player as DVD's need alot of horsepower to run without being choppy.
