Vista administrator

  When I try to access files or folders on try to change setting on my Vista laptop I get an error message that says I do not have administrator abilitys and says I have to be an administrator to do anything. I am the only user on this laptop and my user account says I am an administrator. So is there some other type of admin account that I am missing or what can I do with this
