    Maxtor 40Gb Hard Drive Will not format?!

    I will try to format a hard drive in dos... "format c:"   and it will be frozen at 0% for hours and nothing will hapen....and when i try to format it in windows as a slave...it will not progress. Whats up?

    Is this a slave drive? If not how did you "boot" into Dos?

    Normally this is done with a boot floppy or a CD if this is your "C" drive.

    You can't boot the machine into windows and than try to format it's self.

        im judging, due to its capacity, that it is an older drive. Dias de verano may be correct, assuming you hooked it up correctly and correctly set the jumpers.
