I've been trying to figure this out for months I'm  about to give up and just go buy another computer. Every time I play even the shortest of video or music my cpu jumps to 100% for up to 1 minute or more and freezes while the sound skips. After around a minute the cpu drops back down and plays fine for about thirty seconds and then it does it again. It is literaly driveing me insane trying to figure out whats wrong any help would be greatly apreciated and save me from shaving my head to cover up the places where I have ripped my hair out

        1. Download, and install VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/ to play videos, and see, if same CPU spikes will happen.
        2. As for images, open some image, and let me know what program it opened with.

try going to safe mode with networking, restart your pc and press f8 to go there, and check cpu usage..

System means literally your Motherboard using CPU bandwidth...Like swapping between drives makes this process use 20-40% on a low range computer these days (2.0+ Ghz CPU, 512MB RAM)

So rather odd there isnt it?
I used to have a slow computer that MP3's would stutter when copying files across drives
