jscript.dll error

It's me again. I'm trying to fix an old Dell Pentium lll computer for  a friend with 128 mb RAM running Windows ME. I was trying to get a wireless adapter to work and I ran into this message. "Explorer has caused an error in  jscript.dll" and it tries to close the computer but never quite succeeds because the error keeps popping up. I can start in safe mode. What can I do to fix this?

Does it say:
Explorer has caused an invalid page fault in jscript.dll
If so, is Norton installed there?

No, it simply states that Explorer has caused an error in jscript.dll and needs to close except that it doesn't close. It just turns the background to white and the error keeps coming up no matter how many times I delete it. It doesn't affect the operation of the computer. I can still run the all the programs if I don't mind the pop-up. This computer is running AVG anti-virus. I've also been running Windows Registry repair which found almost 600 problems but it still hasn't fixed this particular problem. I've also tried msconfig to repair the jscript.dll file but it tells me that it can't repair the file from C:Windows\Option|cabs because there is no such file ther. I found two identical jscript.dll files in Windows\System.

Do you have ME CD?

Two identical files can't exist in same folder. They must differ in some way.

It was a free Registry program I found on Geek Squad. Yes I have the ME CD. I can save the rest of her e-mail using safemode and I'll re-format the drive and start over again. I just thought there would be an easy fix. A funny thing. I went to restore system and the only restore point was Jan. 1899. I didn't know they had computers back then.

Yeah, reformat, sometimes is the best bet, especially, if there is not much to save from the computer.

SYMPTOMS
When you run the System Restore tool in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), the following behaviors may occur:

• The calendar on the left side of the "Choose a Restore Point" window is absent.

• The date on the title bar for the restore point list is Saturday, December 30, 1899.

CAUSE

These behaviors can occur if the file association for Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) Component (.htc) files is absent from the registry.

Dias, that looks exactly like the computer I'm trying to fix.
I have another question to ask. I have the disc that came with the computer. It's called a reinstallation disk. I tried running the setup but a get this message: "There is a crosslinked file on drive C. Run scandisk from the reinstallation disk to fix the problem." I did this and it found nothing. The next time I ran the setup, it froze. My question is if I reformat, will I be able to reinstall Windows ME from that particular disk?

I was able to format the drive but now I can't get the reinstallation done. I type in the drive letter followed by setup I get invalid drive specification. help please.

DLoad a WinME bootdisk from bootdisk.com...
Double clik the file to create a bootable floppy...have a fresh floppy in.
Make sure you grab the one with CDRom support.
Boot to the floppy and at the A: prompt type R: and hit Enter (R: is the drive designation for the CD drive)
At the R: prompt type setup and hit Enter and you should be good to go...
If this doesn't work try D: as the drive letter instead.

Thanks, Broni. That worked althought I had a slight problem. I have drive D which is a read only CD drive and E which is a read & write CD drive. It wouldn't recognize the E drive. Everything is installed and appears to be functioning properly. You can alway count on the experts at ComputerHope.

When I put the reinstallation disk in drive E I received that message. Now I have another problem. When I re-start the computer I get the " An exception OE has occurred at 0028. I found a fix on the MS site but they're blaming it on Symantec but I haven't installed any antivirus programs as yet. Should I try their remedy?
