    no dial tone
    « on: April 24, 2008, 03:18:56 PM »
I have windows xp and explorer. I was on the net when a warning box popped up and then the computer turned off. After starting up again it all looked the same, virus scan didn't show anything but now when trying to log on the internet, my dial up keeps saying no dial tone. I have checked and double checked the phone jack and wiring all work, it's something in my computer and i don't know what. I also checked the device manager and my modem is working correctly. hope you can help thanks Debbie

      Go Start>Run, type in:
      cmd
      Click OK.

In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
      ipconfig /flushdns
      ipconfig /registerdns
      ipconfig /release
      ipconfig /renew

      Restart computer.

There is "a space" after "ipconfig".
Hold Windows key on your keyboard, and click Pause/Break key to see what Windows version you have.

Sounds like you got some kind of maleware spyware or something.  I would scan your pc.  Then do a restart shoufld fix it.
Windows 7 RC Tester.  Working on it.  Your monitor says etchasketch on the side!

Download, install, and run LSP-Fix: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Restart computer, and see, if it helped.
              If not...
Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml
              Restart computer, and check again.

They both work with Windows 2000.
