    Loud beeping noise...
    « on: May 11, 2008, 06:49:27 PM »
Hello everyone. I own a dell inspiron 9300 and I recently read that if i typed msconfig into the run tab on my computer and then disabled some of the items on there that it would run quicker. Well I did just that and then I tryed to switch it back and I can't. Now my internet connection won't work and it makes this extremely loud beeping noise for no reason. It's always been really slow and I thought I could speed it up. I only use it for going on the internet and for fixing my pictures. If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks  :)

How and what did you try to switch back?

I went under run. Typed msconfig and once i got there i went from normal start up to the selective start up. and i unchecked the first two boxs, but once i did that and it restarted. I no longer had my internet option in the lower right hand corner. I can't get on the internet and my volume controls are disabled. Lots of stuff doesn't work and it's making this extremely loud beeping noise when i'm trying to fetch programs and right when i shut it down. There's a message that pops up that says the system service is not running.

        1. Why did you uncheck something, you had no idea about?
        2. If computer boots back to Windows, run msconfig again, put checkmarks back, and restart.

I unchecked it because of a post that i read on this website explaining that if i unchecked those specific boxs that my computer would run quicker. I did also go beck to the normal start up and for some reason it won't go back to those settings.

What exactly does it mean? You can't put checkmarks back, or what?
          What are those entries names?

                  You unchecked these two?

Then you put checkmarks back, clicked OK, and restarted, right?

If so, go back there, and click on Launch System Restore, and restore your computer to a date from before your monkeying with your computer.

I also tryed to do that. I went under system restore and it only allows me to go to the day after i did it. I thought if i click that date then it would do something, but it didn't. Im completely stumped. is there a way to completely clear my computer and bring it back to the original format. There so much on there which i don't need. All i use it for is online and pictures.

This is a computer I purchased 3 years ago so I'm pretty sure I don't have the original cd for that, but I did just recently buy a hp and I probably have those cd's. Would that work?

Probably not if it's an HP...you will need to borrow/ not buy an official Windows XP CD that matches your version and Service Pack #'s....
I wish there was better news but it is what it is.

The only other alternative is to contact the manuf. and follow their instructions to do a Restore of your OS as it is probably on a hidden partition on the machine if you did not recieve CD's....
Unfortunately using this process will wipe ALL your data and any programs you have installed and take the machine back to Day One status.

This is why i suggested finding an XP CD as there are more alternatives that way...
