Java Runtime Environment

I cannot install the JRE. When I try on-line all I get is a flash on the screen and that's it. When I downloaded the offline installer the exe. file would not open. I'm running Win ME on a Compaq Presario with 384 megs ram. Help.

The last available update for 98/ME is 1.5.06 I think. The newer versions are not compatible with older OS's.
