    Taskbar won't relocate , on Windows 2000
    « on: May 29, 2008, 08:23:35 PM »
At work I was playing around on an old laptop with Windows 2000 , that we have a tool inventory and issue log ( no internet )  and one hidden video game . The task bar was at the bottom when I started and now it's on the left side and the start button is not even showing all the way . I tried left click and dragging  down , as someone suggested , but the taskbar will not move . Could I have locked something that won't let me drag . The video game did have additional commands to change the game using some of the " F ' keys , I could have pushed the wrong one .  Any suggestions would be appreciated .

I don't remember, if Win 2K has "lock taskbar" feature, but, if it does, you have to unlock taskbar, first.

    Windows 2K has a "Unlock/Lock Taskbar" feature

Right click the task bar in a place where there are no windows opened. Uncheck "Lock the Taskbar"
Once you have done that, you can click and hold down an empty area of the task bar, and drag it around your screen.

Running Win.2k and Win.2k Pro I cannot find the Unlock/Lock Taskbar feature in either.  Searches seem to show that the feature was not available till XP and that the only way to lockdown the taskbar is to use a Regedit which a couple of posters indicate does not work for them.  See here and here..

Right Left click then drag works to relocate the Taskbar.

Can anyone direct me to a link to add the Unlock/Lock Taskbar feature to the menu please?

      It's not only me.
As well, as Dusty, I did some search, and there is a lot of posts out there, looking for a solution for Win 2K. Apparently, even registry hacks don't work.

I think what you do is find the edge of the taskbar, and then drag it all the way out (making it bigger) and continue to hold it, and then move it around the screen.

I just tried, and you don't need to play with any edge. Click anywhere within taskbar, hold mouse button, and it moves.

I did finally get it moved today back to the bottom.  After I posted this question, I followed up with some computer Hope research and followed Zylstra's advice, but still couldn't get it to move. After playing around I clicked a few times and it moved on the right side, so I knew I was close. Zylstra was right, it was just a temperamental old computer . You had to have the arrow moving just right while clicking just at the right time . Bottom line , I Got It .
                                   Thanks for everyone's advice .
