No audio device found
« on: June 01, 2008, 05:24:16 PM »
It's me again. One of my friends called to inform me that she has no sound on her computer. Apparently, her boyfriend installed or had someone install and new HDD and a new video card. I had to help her load the drivers for her new video card in order to make it work properly. I did a quick check in device manager and found her sound, video and game controllers were all tagged with a yellow ?. Her sound is on-board and not a separate card. What are we looking at here? New drivers. She's supposed to call me back and I'll get her to check if her Windows audio is enabled and set to automatic.

It appears she needs new drivers for her onboard sound.

They can be found at the computer manufacturer's website.

What's the make and model?

I won't know her make & model until I get a chance to visit again. I found something called Vinyl Audio on Google. It seems to be the ultimate in drivers for audio. Does anyone know anything about this?

You're better off to install the drivers that were specifically written for her motherboard. The video card should have come with a driver CD. If the board has onboard video make sure you go into CMOS and disable it first.

It's tougher when other people are doing other things to the computer.
