Okay so when I turn my computer on, when it gets to the black screen (on vista) where it says microsoft corporation with the gren loading bar, i can see that where the light flickers/flashes when its loading something... it doesnt start flashing until a minute after the screen comes up.... why? I have seen on other comps it starts right away..

What doesn't start flashing?

Install/run/download anything before this happened?

No I didnt, it justs seems to happen. and truthfully idk what its called lol its the light that flashes when ur doin somethin lol i guess its the light for the processor or w/e but it seems to take too long.... somebody said maybe the hard drive takes a long time to respond?

Ooh, are you talkin about the light on the computer?

When you turn the computer on, does anything come on? (like the manufacturer logo)

well it doesnt get to the windows logo... it shows toshiba., then gets to the part with "microsoft corp." and the green loading bar, and theres the little lights like for the battery, power, etc. and the one that blinks when its processing something, doesnt start blinking for like a minute. which im pretty sure it should pretty quickly since all other laptops i sell with it run quite quick

So there is significant lag time before windows boots. I'm not sure why but you could try running a System Defragmenation and see what happens.

Not too sound like a jerk, but I ran that, and it didnt seem to make a difference

I wouldn't think so, but we can't discount any possibilities.

Has the problem been running ever since you got the laptop or just recently?

How much RAM do you have on your computer?

Well its got 2GB which isnt bad, and its quite recent. I havent really put anything major on it, its been doin it since i pretty much got it.

Ok so it was slow in safe mode as wel.... the last thing it said was loaded was crcdisk.sys and then it stopped for a while(like 30 seconds) then started up again

When you click Enter upon choosing Safe Mode, you should see a whole bunch of code.
Then it will pretty much freeze for about 30 seconds and then load Windows.

What do you mean by 'started up again'.
Do you mean it took longer to load as well?

ok after it said crcdisk.sys was loaded, the light for the processor stops and it just sits on the screen with all of the loaded files or w/e it is for about 30 seconds before it moves on and starts flashing again

Did you try to run Windows Updates from Control Panel? It'll tell you, if anything is missing.

it just says that there is 1 optional update available, but nothing about the two that failed

Perhaps the Windows Update was the problem.

I had a problem a few month after I got my new laptop where Windows Update got rid of my Audio, keyboard and wireless drivers.

OK so i still feel like an idiot but i cannot find a way to download the failed windows updates, it shows on the list as failed, and when i right click to do nething, just gives details, but no option to reinstall....

Sounds like your computer loading is slowed down due to the time it takes to load start up programs.
You can try disabling these

start
control panel
under the programs icon click Change start up programs
And disable the programs you don't need loaded on computer start up.

also... what type of anti virus program are you running?

I know Norton products always makes a computer load slowly.

Don't know if it will help but you can try.

The OS I'm using is Vista

And it just sounded like a previous problem I've experienced,
also the posts were rather confusing (to me no offence intended) so i just commented to what i understood or assumed of the situation. (hence the comment "it might not help", I could be going in the totally wrong direction =/ as your opinion states)

Safe mode lists the drivers as they are loaded. crcdisk.sys appears to be the one causing the significant lag. If we can determine what crcdisk is for, perhaps we can try to narrow down exactly what is causing it to take so long to load....

I've looked around, and from what I can tell from your posts, your computer is a laptop... a Toshiba one at that. This fellow here had a similiar problem (albiet he had to wait longer) http://experienciasnet.blogspot.com/2007/02/crcdisksys.html

short story- is your Power Mode set to High Performance? If so maybe setting it back to balanced will fix it.
