Blue Screen of Death and Hard Disk Boot Problem
    « on: July 26, 2008, 06:52:01 PM »
I recently posted on here because my computer was turning off after a few minutes of being switchd on, through process of elimination (by systematically replacing each component with that of another, almos identical computer) we found that the power supply was faulty.
We bought a new one and installed it but when we boot it up it says "Boot disk failure" (it might say boot drive, etc. it's not word for word).

We put in the Vista Home Premium CD and it boots but we always get the blue screen of death, usually before we even get to the desktop. There are two different messages that have shown up: The first one doesn't give us enough time to read it before it resets itself, te second one says

    Quote
"An attempt wa made to execute to on-executable memory.

If ths is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If tis screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer fo any windows updates you migt need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly instaled hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

    Technical information:

    *** STOP: 0x000000FC (0x8DEE738E, 0x8BE07D3B, 0x8781FF18, 0x00000000)

    *** tcpip.sys - Address DEE738E base at 8DE89000, DateStamp 00000000"

We're running a Pentium D processor and 2Gbs of RAM at the moment (we've changed the RAM because we thought it might be a problem)

    Thanks for your help.

Are your updates current? In June, there was an update regarding tcpip.sys
Also, the file may be corrupt.
Click Start, and in "Start search" box type in:
    sfc /scannow
    Hit Enter.

Updates should be current but I can't be completely sure; it won't stay on long enough for me to update or input anything into the start search bar.

Safe mode doesn't work either, get the same thing as normal mode

The first time I did it, it just stayed at the screen where it's meant to say "language to install" etc. but I could only see the background andno text, I gave it a while and it still didn't work so I restarted it and this time I got a new blue screen of death (I've probably gotten it before and I just didn't realize that it was different from the other ones). It says:

          Quote
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or heck wit the manufacturer fr driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shaowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to selec Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

          Technical information:

          *** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC000005, 0x888E752B, 0x8C65B3E4, 0x00000000)

It's pretty similar to the last error message though, it looks to me like the hard disk coul somehow be corrupted, could that be the case?

Are you booting from Windows DVD?
When you restart your computer do you press a key, when it says "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD"?
It looks to me like you're still booting to Windows, not to DVD.
Did you check boot order in BIOS?

I am booting from the DVD, I'm sure of it.

I did check boot order in BIOS, but every time I change it, the next time I turn it on and check it switches right back, I'm pretty sure it's Removable, Hard Disk, CD-ROM at the moment, but I tried changing it to CD-ROM, Hard Disk, Removable.

It should be CD-ROM, Hard Disk, Removable.
Are you sure, you SAVE changes upon exiting BIOS?

That one time must've been either an anomaly or a misunderstanding because it has saved it now, it's CD-ROM, Hard Disk, Removable.

Thanks for your help by the way.

Usually, STOP error says more. It names some process, or file responsible for the error.
                Can you see more info?
