Win 98 & Pioneer DVD-Rom drive

Hi, Windows 98 fails to recognise a Pioneer DVD ROM drive, according to Pioneer it's PnP so shouldn't require additional drivers.

I've started in Safe mode and the PC sees the drive in device manager, but isn't visible in normal run mode.

Other than re-installing windows any ideas?
