Hey all, i've joined this forum because i have a MAJOR problem on my other computer.

After i unistalled Norton i had alot of spyware and popups that kept coming up telling me to install Antivirus2009 and WindowsCleaner automatically installed itself on my computer and made my computer run very slow and freeze alot...

Ileft it, and the next day i loaded up my computer logged in but as soon as i logged in it went 'loading' and then came up with an error saying something about userid.exe not accessible and would load up my background and thats it nothing else. Now i can't get past this stage at all, and no CD's came with my computer for example no Widnows disks as they said it wasn't needed.

What do i do? I can't access my computer at all headscratch.gif

You need to go here and follow the instructions to the letter. At some point the thread will be moved to it's proper forum.

Ah have i posted in wrong section? Sorry, i thought it might be something to do with Windows as it's a problem with even getting past the login stage now aswell...

Ah thanks, yes but the trouble is i can't actually login either anymore...

Once i login it says that userid.exe had to be closed, click here to terminate the programme. And so i can't even get past the loging stage...

Also, when i brought my computer from PC World, it came with 0 CD's as it said System restore was built into the machine...

Can you access Safe Mode? If so, scan with HijackThis in Safe Mode and post the log here, and we'll see if there's anything we can do.

I can access safemode yes, but i still can't login in SafeMode

Problems like this are very hard to deal with if you can't log in...do you happen to have an original Windows CD handy?

I don't know why, but they said there was no need for one to be supplied when i brought the computer as is was built into the machine $:-\$

Thanks, i'm a complete computer nOOb though. My computers operating system was Windows Media Center, so i have to rebuy the Windows Media Center disk and put it in the disk drive and it will re-instally my system to the beginning?

It doesn't matter, what Windows XP version you buy. You boot from that CD, format your hard drive, and reinstall Windows.
Surely, all your data will be gone.

Thanks mate, you sure this is my only option to fix my problem having to spend money? Surely i might as well just upgrade and but Vista? Thanks alot mate

You have a lot of problems there, so reinstall is probably your best bet.
As for Vista, your processor may be little bit too slow.

Thanks mate, i read somewhere that you can ring Dell support up and ask them to ship you over your setup disk for free (meaning the Windows Media Center disk), all i have to do is pay for shipping. Is this true?

Yeah, it's called Recovery CD, which return your computer to its original state.
One disadvantage of CD like this is, you'll always have only one option, when your computer gets into any trouble - format, and return to day one state.
With Windows XP CD, you can run all kind of repair options, leaving your data safe.

Ahh OK, so if i call asking for this recovery CD they will send me a CD which will fix my computer back to its original working state?

I just read more post replies here and if you use recovery disk...once in windows you could always install a software like Norton Go Back and then that would take you back to the last successful boot up if needed.

Exactly the same happens once i login with guest, comes up with the error message and only the background loads...

My plan was to have you try doing a repair install, which should allow you to keep your data.

As for getting the CD from Dell...I wish you the best of luck. Most people have a *censored* of a time getting them.

In any case, be sure to keep us updated.

I know, I was only explaining why I asked if he had one. And if he gets ahold of the CD, I think it would be best to try the repair install before trying to reformat.

Hate to say it, guys, but I think he found CTRL-F11 and is long since done restoring.

A repair install would have been a good choice but he didn't have a CD and didn't seem worried about losing data.

Hey yeah, most of the data i required was just files i had backed up on memory stick anyway, so i used Cntrl+F11 and now everything is fine again

Glad that you're back in business!

It's still a good idea to get the recovery disks from Dell or see if it is possible to make your own from the recovery partition on your hard drive. If your hard drive fails, the recovery partition will be inaccessible.

Hate to dissapoint you but this will not work after the fact...
Go Back would have needed to be installed prior to the point where he started having issues.
